Project Update - Dec 2

Ice Stupa Update:
This update comes after a gap. After many days of internet breakdown in Leh, I had to go on a lecture tour to France for a week. This morning I came back from the tour but only to find that internet is again completely down in whole of Leh. So here I am at this VSAT satellite connection trying to post this update for you. Ladakh is definitely not an easy place for internet based projects. The handicap you feel is not easy to understand unless you experience it. But anyway that does not mean that things have not moved on ground in Phyang.
This afternoon after landing in Leh I went to Phyang village and here I am giving an update of the past two weeks.
1. PVC pipes of large 20 cm diameter were specially manufactured in AROTEK factory in Jammu city. The factory took much longer than their scheduled date of delivery but now most of them have reached Phyang monastery.
2. Meanwhile on the ground a base for the ice stupa which is roughly 90 m in length and 30 m in width has been prepared.
3. Work on the digging of trenches for pipe-laying has been started but not finished.
4. Sprinklers for the ice stupa tip have come and are being tested.
The Ice Stupa team thanks all the supporters who have contributed roughly 40% of the target so far. Now 25 days remain and this is a good time for those of you who did not get time to contribute earlier.
