ICE STUPA PUTS ON A NEW LOOK FROM 1st of APRIL

Nowadays ice formation has fully stopped, so no more water fountains at the top. Instead now the ice stupa is adorned with prayer flags.

The prayer flags may look like those on a stupa anywhere in the Himalayas (2nd pic... famous Boudhanath in Kathmandu), but here it has another important role and function...
that of acting as partial shading from the strong spring sun and as wind-break against the warm spring winds... two things that usually make the ice melt early in spring.
